Queen’s Continuing Professional Development invites you to take part in the Educating Family Physicians in Palliative Care program — a comprehensive, four-day course designed to equip healthcare professionals with the skills and confidence to provide high-quality palliative care in their communities.
Rooted in practical, case-based learning, this program covers core aspects of palliative care including:
- Pain and symptom management
- Advance care planning
- Communication strategies for difficult conversations
- End-of-life care in various settings
- Psychosocial and spiritual support for patients and families
Delivered by an interprofessional faculty of palliative care experts, the program emphasizes collaborative learning and real-world application. This program will help you deliver compassionate, patient-centered care at every stage of serious illness.

Eligibility
Family physicians living within the areas of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, Hastings, Prince Edward, Lanark, Leeds and Grenville, Northumberland, Haliburton, Peterborough, Victoria, and Durham are eligible to participate in the program.
Family Physicians who wish to attend but who do not practice in any of the eligible regions may put their name onto a wait list by emailing chris.cornish@queensu.ca. You will be contacted if space becomes available. The fee to attend will be $325.

Financial Support
Practicing Family Physicians who meet the eligibility requirements may claim up to a maximum of $600 for expenses related to attending this course, such as travel, accommodation and the cost of a locum to cover your practice.
Family Physician Registration Fee:
Educating Family Physicians in Palliative Care is funded by the Ministry of Health, Kingston Area Long-term Care Division.
There is no registration fee: only a $325 deposit which will be returned when you complete the course. Registration is limited.
A limited number of spots for the 4-day Educating Family Physicians in Palliative Care program have been opened up to Nurse Practitioners.
Nurse Practitioner Registration Fee: $325.
NPs who register may attend the four-day program but are not eligible to complete the preceptorship nor receive any financial support to cover expenses. NPs who complete the program will receive a certificate with a statement of learning hours.
