Doors Open Rideau Lakes - Guided Field Walk
Queen’s University Biological Station (QUBS) is celebrating 80 years!
Established in 1945 on Opinicon Lake near Chaffey’s Lock, it’s now among the top scientific field stations in Canada. QUBS encompasses 8,000 acres of mixed hardwood forest, wetlands, meadow and lakeshore habitat. Several biospheres converge here, making QUBS integral for leading-edge research, field courses spanning ecology, conservation, geography, and environmental science and opportunities to engage in outreach to foster public awareness of environmental and conservation issues.
Established in 2011, the Elbow Lake Environmental Education Centre (20 minutes from our Opinicon Lake campus) was created to serve as a major site for environmental education and outreach for QUBS. We welcome public visitors to explore our 8km of pedestrian trails at Elbow Lake, attend our public events or register for our youth summer day camp, Eco-Adventure Camp!
For Doors Open, take a special field walk from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, August 16 only at our primary research station at 280 Queen's University Road, Elgin, ON. Pre-registration required.
